You may not have noticed anything unusual but the backend of our website was hacked a week or two ago. The site is now fixed and is more secure than before. If you ever experience anything unusual with the site or notice things that need fixing please drop a quick note to admin@bsa110.com with details.

Also, when you have updates or announcements you want posted to the site Bulletin Board you can email them to that same address.

Event Registration

Troop –

I apologize for the inconveniences of the recent hiccups in our event registration system (see Canoe Trip Note below). Please be aware that regular evaluation, tweaking and updating is taking place in an effort to make it simple to sign-up and track registrations.

A recent update now requires you to register and login with BSA110.com to sign-up for an event – Please do this. After registration you will receive an email to confirm your registration – Please do this too. The BSA110.com registration goes hand-in-hand with our new ability to comment on bulletin board posts.

Speaking of Comments – The Comment Section is a place to “say” something publicly about a post. You may ask a question, but don’t necessarily expect an answer. Also, posting a comment which says “____ will go camping.” does not count as a sign-up for an event. You need to do that in the Event Registration area on the Calendar page.

CANOE TRIP NOTE
Please re-register for the canoe trip if you want to go. So far we have four registrations (2 Biastre & 2 Dealing). If you previously registered but did not sign-up to BSA110.com, your registration is anonymous and we don’t know who you are.

Adults & Registration Needed

– ADULTS WANTED –
– We need adults to work with scouts and then accompany them on a canoe trip
– Our Scoutmaster can not go canoeing or kayaking due to medical restrictions
– Please contact the Scoutmaster ASAP with your volunteerism availability for this trip
– If we don’t have enough adults, we can’t go

– EVERYBODY –
Please use the website event registration so we can have a correct head count for ALL our events. It is critical that we track attendance for planning our events. We must submit permits to Council 21 days prior to trips. The Event Registration link is on the Calendar page.

Attention to our Newest Patrol

At the March 28th meeting Mr. Walsh and some of our newest Scouts spent time discussing patrol name. We recently added a new document in the Downloads section that shows many options for patrol names and patches.

In the coming weeks you and your other patrol members will vote on a name and a patch. Head on over to the Downloads page and look under the Reference section. There you will find a document called Patrol Badges. Review this selection and pick out ten that you like.

Scheduling Challengs
As you know, we had BIG challenges in the past getting early sign-up and commitments for our outings. Unfortunately this caused a few trips to be postponed or cancelled.

Now, for the good news!!!
The website has a new way to register for troop events. We hope this gives you an easy way to see what is in the pipeline and inspires you to register early and frequently! Remember – the more early commitments we get, the more likely the event will happen!

This new interface allows you to register (and subsequently plan your family calendar) for events that are quite a way into the future. Check out the Calendar page and find the new link in the Event Registration section.

Check It Out – The Downloads area recently received an overhaul. It now includes some new categories and a collection of new and updated documents (Applications, Blue Cards, Tour Plan, etc.).

New Calendar Feature

Our troop calendar now supports document attachments!!! Right about now you are probably asking yourself “Self, what does this mean to me?”

Well, this is what it means to you… Our Senior Patrol Leader creates a Meeting Plan for most of our meetings. These, and other event-related documents, can now be attached to the events on our calendar for easy access.

Want to see this in action?
Go to the calendar. Click on the Oct. 4th meeting event. An event balloon pops up with a “more details>” link. Click that and a new window opens with details and/or attachments for that event. If there is an attachment click on its’ link and a new window opens. The new window may display the document and/or give you a link (just under the document name) to download it. Just right-click to save to your computer.

Oh, there is a new category on the Downloads Page called “Meeting Plans & Notes.” Guess what you can find there?

Scouts, Scouters and Parents – We hope you are having a great Summer Break.

UPDATES
A few updates were recently made to the website. The new Annual Medical, Adult Application, Scout Application and Unit Transfer forms were added. The 2010 Raven Knob Leader Guide was also added – a great resource for any and all going to camp.

SUMMER CAMP
The second payment was due last week. The third and final payment is due soon. Also, you MUST have the new Annual Medical Form completed and signed by a doctor BEFORE Summer Camp. No form, no camp for you!

CAMPING SIGN-UPS
Adults – Summer camp needs another adult and we always need more adults for weekend camping trips.
Scouts – Check out the calendar and get your names on the lists for the great trips you planned.

Mobile Access & Custom Search

If you tried to access BSA110.com on your mobile device last week and it did not work, please try it again. There is an updated plugin installed that reformats the site for most mobile devices (Android, BlackBerry, Blazer, Cellphone, iPhone, iPod, Nintendo Wii, Nokia, Opera Mini, Palm, PlayStation Portable, SonyEricsson, SymbianOS, WebOS, WindowsCE, WinWAP, etc.).

Custom Search
There is a new search tool installed on the “Troop Resources” page. This tool will search numerous BSA-related sites at once for any search term you enter. The sites included in the search are: BoysLife.org, BSA110.com, Echockotee.org, Elemukulek.org, Main.OA-BSA.org, MeritBadge.org/wiki, NorthFloridaCouncil, Scouting.org, ScoutingMagazine.org, ScoutStuff.org, Southern.OA-BSA.org, USScouts.org. If you know of others that should be included please email the Webmaster.

Please visit BSA110.com on your mobile device and report your experience to the webmaster. Over the weekend a new plugin was installed that reformats the site for mobile, web-enabled devices. The current layout is a bit wonky but will improve with your input.

Webmaster In Training

New This Week – Email Alerts automatically sent to your inbox when news is posted on the Bulletin Board. DON’T PANIC – this only occurs once a day (around 1p) and only if there are new postings. Everyone in the troop is currently subscribed. Want to subscribe or unsubscribe an address? Just input the address into the “Subscribe to Email Alerts” box on the homepage and click the appropriate button.

We also offer TXT Alerts – similar to above but delivered to your mobile phone. See the “Subscribe to TXT Alerts” section on the homepage. You must subscribe to receive TXT Alerts. These are currently initiated manually and not regularly-scheduled like Email Alerts but are still very handy.

North Florida Council
The council just completed a major re-design of its website. Utilizing input from Scout volunteers the site’s navigability and available information was greatly improved. This is a work-in-progress so the council welcomes your feedback.

RSS feeds for “Upcoming Events” and “News” were added. By subscribing to theses feeds you receive notification when the council homepage is updated. You can also subscribe to the “E-List” an email update from council. See the council’s website for details.

DON’T PANIC! You will still find us at bsa110.com… only the look and feel of the site will change. The switch was prompted by changes in the way our site is currently hosted. Some cool new features are a nice benefit of the change. Stay tuned!
