ALL IS WELL! EVERYONE IS FINE! – Mr. Walsh reports that there was bad weather Monday evening. The storm was a big one so the camp put everyone inside the Program Center Building. A few of our scouts got wet sleeping bags that were taken into town for drying. Good thing our leadership has experience (tropical storm at Woodruff four years ago) and BSA Severe Weather training.
Other than weather excitement, camp is going well. Food is the same as last year so everyone is well fed. We will give additional updates again later in the week.
You can send your scout a message by clicking here.
And keep up with weather conditions by clicking here.
Scouts, Scouters and Parents – We hope you are having a great Summer Break.
UPDATES A few updates were recently made to the website. The new Annual Medical, Adult Application, Scout Application and Unit Transfer forms were added. The 2010 Raven Knob Leader Guide was also added – a great resource for any and all going to camp.
SUMMER CAMP The second payment was due last week. The third and final payment is due soon. Also, you MUST have the new Annual Medical Form completed and signed by a doctor BEFORE Summer Camp. No form, no camp for you!
CAMPING SIGN-UPS Adults – Summer camp needs another adult and we always need more adults for weekend camping trips. Scouts – Check out the calendar and get your names on the lists for the great trips you planned.

On this date in 1969 a message was sent 400 miles between two California university computers, laying the groundwork for the Internet and for BSA110.com to exist.
Then, in 1980 Tim Berners-Lee developed the concept of hypertext which became hypertext markup language (HTML) that makes today’s World Wide Web work. The Internet didn’t become a household word until the 90s when Berners-Lee, a British physicist invented the Web, the first Web browser and the first Web server. After those inventions, service providers like America Online (AOL) connected millions of people for the first time.
Scouts will have a good laugh seeing some of the early video games and computers the troop adults grew up with by watching a three-minute National Geographic video on the topic HERE

The next time you see Mr. Smith give him a hearty Boy Scout handshake.
Mr. Smith recently received the 2009 John Wesley Powell Award from the U.S. Geological Survey. He received this award for helping to create the first national mapping, hazard reduction, and resource conservation program for wildfires. Mr. Smith was the Project Manager for this program called LANDFIRE which cost $41 million and took five years to complete.

Dear Scouting Community:
Suddenly and surprisingly, the United Way of Northeast Florida informed the North Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America that we will be receiving $147,000 less than last year to support the Council’s Positive Youth Development/Scouting Program & the Council’s ScoutReach program- serving at-risk-youth in subsidized housing communities in Jacksonville. The North Florida Council is committed to delivering the Scouting and ScoutReach Program; however, quality program delivery is threatened in light of this reduced funding from the United Way of Northeast Florida.
CLICK HERE to learn more and to help the Council make up the shortfall of funds from the United Way.
Also, please forward this email to everyone in your email address book! Any and all support is greatly needed and deeply appreciated!
Thanks for your continued interest and support of Scouting!

Beau Wittmer keeps achieving stellar heights – In addition to earning Eagle, Beau is also school Valedictorian and got a perfect score on a National Latin Exam.
Excerpt from Episcopal High School’s Website… “Valedictorian Earns Perfect Score on National Latin Exam - Posted May 14, 2009 - Episcopal’s valedictorian, Beau Wittmer ’09, has achieved a perfect score on the 2009 National Latin Exam.
