Troop 110 Leader Receives National Award

The next time you see Mr. Smith give him a hearty Boy Scout handshake.

Mr. Smith recently received the 2009 John Wesley Powell Award from the U.S. Geological Survey. He received this award for helping to create the first national mapping, hazard reduction, and resource conservation program for wildfires. Mr. Smith was the Project Manager for this program called LANDFIRE which cost $41 million and took five years to complete.

Adult Training for BSA Aquatics Supervision

The North Florida Council Aquatics Committee is presenting adult leader training in BSA Aquatics Supervision.  The courses are for leaders and adults for water events or paddling excursions where there are no lifeguards. Cost is $15 per session.

New Leader Essentials

The “New Leader Essentials” course has now been replaced with an online course “This is Scouting.” It can be found at http://www.olc.scouting.org/. All registered leaders at all levels of Scouting who have not previously completed NLE should complete this course. (Anyone who did take NLE can review this as a refresher.) NLE will no longer be offered.

Did you know Troop 110’s adult leaders regularly complete training and certification in numerous BSA safety courses? Those courses include: Climb On Safely, CPR, Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, Weather Hazards, Wood Badge and Youth Protection. Visit Scouting.org for more details on training programs.
