The next time you see Mr. Smith give him a hearty Boy Scout handshake.
Mr. Smith recently received the 2009 John Wesley Powell Award from the U.S. Geological Survey. He received this award for helping to create the first national mapping, hazard reduction, and resource conservation program for wildfires. Mr. Smith was the Project Manager for this program called LANDFIRE which cost $41 million and took five years to complete.
